THE PROMISE WE MAKE TOGETHER

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

I pledge allegiance...
These are your personal words - a solemn promise to your country. They mean: “I am on this team, and I will always have your back.”

To the flag of the United States of America...
The flag is our shared symbol. When we look at it, we see every American who lives under it - not just a piece of cloth.

And to the republic for which it stands...
A republic means we govern ourselves together. We choose leaders who listen to us and make fair rules that protect every voice.

One nation under God...
We are one people, from sea to shining sea - part of something much larger than ourselves.

Indivisible...
Our union cannot be broken. Even when we disagree, we remain one nation.

With liberty and justice for all...
This is the heart of the promise.
• Liberty is your freedom to dream and to be who you are.
• Justice means the rules apply equally to everyone.
• For all means every single person - no race, background, or story is left out.

WHY WE STAND: A PROMISE TO THE PROMISE

I always stand for the Pledge. For me, it is not about being perfect - it is about honoring the work still left to do. When we stand, we focus on the standard. We honor the generations who sacrificed to keep this promise alive, and we commit to making “for all” a reality for every American family.

A NOTE FROM A VETERAN

“These words are a promise to keep our nation whole, free, and fair. As someone who served 20 years in the Army, I have seen firsthand that this promise is protected by sacrifice. Every time we say these words, we honor those who wore the uniform to ensure this promise keeps flying for your children and mine.”

- Benjamin Cobb

OUR SHARED FUTURE

In a busy world, it is easy to forget the simple promises that hold us together. By remembering these basic ideas of loyalty, unity, freedom, and fairness, we can build a stronger future for every American family.

Say it again. Stand if you can. We are still one nation if we choose to be.
