What I Believe
Every citizen should have confidence that their vote counts. The system only works if every vote counts, every voice must count.
The Problem: Fragmented, Insecure Systems
The current system is a patchwork of fragmented state rules and outdated technology, which invites partisan manipulation and erodes public trust. Voter confusion and arbitrary barriers actively discourage citizen participation, weakening the foundation of our democracy.
What I'll Do - The Election Trust and Access Act - ETAA
- National Modernization & Security: Implement a federal mandate and provide comprehensive funding for all states to upgrade to secure, verifiable, paper-ballot-based voting systems. Mandate routine, non-partisan, Risk-Limiting Audits (RLAs) in every election to confirm accuracy before results are certified.
- Uniform Federal Ballot Access: Enact minimum federal standards to ensure consistent and fair ballot access across all states. This includes Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) upon turning 18 or interacting with government agencies, and a guaranteed minimum of two weeks of early voting for all federal elections. Restore voting rights automatically to all citizens who have completed felony sentences.
- Transparency and Accountability: Require real-time public disclosure of ballot curing procedures, clear documentation of all chain-of-custody protocols for ballots and machines, and allow non-partisan citizen observer groups reasonable access to monitor counting and auditing processes.
- Safeguarding Election Officials: Pass federal protections for election workers and administrators, making it a federal crime to threaten or harass officials responsible for counting votes. Establish independent, non-partisan commissions to oversee election administration and remove partisan political appointees from positions that manage vote tabulation or certification.
Why It Matters
The right to vote is the foundation of our republic. If citizens don’t trust the process, they stop participating, and the powerful win by default. This plan restores integrity to the ballot box, ensuring every American voice is heard and every election result is secure and verifiable.
